The sea looks green when the sky is grey
Where, in the early years of the 21st century, might post-Bailey improvised music be heading? If Derek's enduring legacy is that he helped to give musicians complete control over their own music, and freedom in which to play it, then the trio of Kaasbøll, Duch and Veliotis have exercised this freedom to deliver an album that is both contemporarily rich and aware and yet, at times, respectful of our musical past.
Their music builds on foundations laid down by The Dream Syndicate, Tod Dockstader and Giacinto Scelsi, and places itself firmly at the forefront of modern improvisation. Solid and well-crafted, their sounds leave little to chance and give the impression, quite rightly, of a music that is completely thought through and thoroughly researched.
