Sound artist Tine Surel Lange lives in Lofoten, in Norway's far north. It's tempting to connect the qualities of her electroacoustic work to the ruggedly delineated terrain and atmospheric clarity of that region. Titles such as "Water And Stone" and "Sunset Rising" reinforce a sense that the nature of the locality has helped Lange to refine her own listening practices. Everyday environments provide the material she works with, although in her shrewdly processed reconstructions the identity of particular sound sources becomes less significant than their auditory character. Listeners are invited to reflect on their own psychoacoustic response to tones, timbres, rhythms and densities that might be routine and familiar in themselves, but are here framed in ways that allow them to be heard within fresh and potentially illuminating perspectives.
