Sidsel Endresen

Sidsel Endresen has worked within a wide spectrum of genres and art forms as well as cooperated with a large number of Norwegian and international musicians and composers since 1980. She has founded and lead her own groups and projects since 1984 as well as performed as a soloist with Norwegian and international symphonies, choirs and contemporary ensembles. Endresen has worked within multi-media, performance, theatre and dance and has been a leader within work using the voice as a solo instrument.


Sidsel Endresen has released 14 solo albums, as well as taken part in a long list of group projects incorporating both international and Norwegian artists. In addition to writing music and lyrics for her own projects, Endresen has composed music for 10 dance / theatre sets, and numerous large commissions for organizations such as Molde Jazz Festival -93, Vossa-Jazz -96, Bergen NattJazz -02 and Barbican (London) -05.


Sidsel Endresen has traveled and taken part in festivals in Scandinavia, England, Europe, Canada, China and Japan.


Awards and Accomplishments: 4 Spellemannpriser (Norwegian Grammy), Oslo Artist Price, Kongsberg JazzFestivals Musician Price, BuddyPrisen (The highest award in Norwegian Jazz).
In 2000 she was also nominated for the Nordic Council’s Music Prize.


She has enjoyed international fame since 1990 with a number of her releases being voted as “The Month Release”, “The Critiques Choice”, etc. in various international magazines.

• Commision for BBC at The Barbican in London, 2005 (piece for 4 voices).
• The release Merriwinkle (Jazzland/Universal -04), with Christian Wallumrød and Helge Sten.
• The Solo project Undertow (Jazzland/Universal -2000) – with Audun Kleive, Roger Ludvigsen, Patrick Shaw Iversen, Bugge Wesseltoft and Nils Petter Molvær (till 2002) – later with Christian Wallumrød and Jan Bang.
• Duo with Bugge Wesseltoft. They released 3 cd’s: Night Song (Curling Legs/ACT -94), Duplex Ride (CL/ACT -98) and Out Here. In There (Jazzland/ Universal -02).
• Work with the composer Rolf Wallin: soloist and composer of LautLeben.
• Two releases on ECM: So I Write (ECM-90), with Django Bates, Nils Petter Molvær, Jon Christensen and EXILE (ECM-94), with David Darling and Bugge Wesseltoft.
