Paal Nilssen-Love

Paal Nilssen-Love was born in 1974 and was raised at Stavanger Jazzclub (1979
– 1986) run by his parents. He has all the time been working with different kinds of jazz, both free improvised and traditional and his music is always based on a high energy-level and freedom.

Already in 1990 he started to play with trumpeter Didrik Ingvaldsen (Pocket Corner) and saxophonist Frode Gjerstad (trio, Circulasione Tot. Orch.) their
work was to become very productive and defined Paal´s musical integrity.

During the last years he has established several contacts with Swedish musicians based in Stockholm, amongst others pianist Sten Sandell, and saxophonists Per «Texas» Johansson and Mats Gustafsson. Together with Ingebrigt Flaten, he has
established contacts in Chicago with saxophonist Ken Vandermark and trombonist Jeb Bishop in the group School Days and Scorch Trio with Finnish guitarist Raoul Björkenheim.
